ABSTRACT

This study was carried out with the aim of determining the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic on the amount of workforce, medicine, consumables, and emergency service income brought to the emergency services. This research is descriptive and retrospective. The data of the study consisted of emergency room patient and employee data between March 2019 and March 2021. The data of the study were analyzed retrospectively through the hospital information operating system (HIOS). In the evaluation of the data, number, percentage, Mann-Whitney U test were used together with Monte Carlo results. p< 0.05 was taken as statistical significance level. In the pre-COVID-19 period, it was determined that the number of patients and the number of consultations decreased compared to the post-COVID-19 period, the total number of treatment procedures per patient, the number of laboratory tests per patient, the number of radiological imaging and the amount of consumables increased (p< 0.05). The mean income per patient was found to be significantly higher (p< 0.001). It is recommended to establish processes and policies for emergency services in order to increase the quality of service in patient and employee safety by evaluating the intensity of emergency services for epidemic and pandemic periods such as COVID-19 disease.
