ABSTRACT
The outbreak caused by a new coronavirus disease called COVID-19 turned into a pandemic in a very short time. Its compelling and restrictive effects, which forced in all aspect of social life, dramatically affected the dental services. Dental treatments are applied very carefully in terms of the risk of cross-infection also before this pandemic period and that follow the disinfection and sterilization rules at the highest level. According to this approach, both Republic of Turkey Ministry of the Health and Turkish Health Care Quality System and Accreditation Institute (TÜSKA) have addressed the importance of accreditation as well as other services in the process of sterilization issues. However, some equipment used in most dental treatments, such as air-driven handpieces, electric micromotors, or scalers, that generate a substantial aerosol will spread the SARS-CoV-2 virus in an increased risk of cross-infection. So this pandemic process; it will give us a new vision for dental practices in the future as it causes us to review our work habits. This article aims to create a perspective to evaluate the current situation and to discuss additional measures to be taken in the new period.
