ABSTRACT

Pathology sample management plays an important role in ensuring patient safety in the operating room. Applying the correct treatment protocol in diseases is possible with correct diagnosis. For this, the risk of misdiagnosis must be minimized by performing the sample management process in safe ways. Another important detail in the pathology sample management process is ensuring employee safety. Pathology specimen and the preservative solution used are biohazardous. Advanced employee safety practices should be implemented to prevent possible risks. Sample management that is not done safely requires new planning, labor force, increases the cost, and the condition of patients whose treatment is delayed may result in mortality. Improving the sample management process is possible by constantly updating existing protocols. In this study, examined the international literature systematizing the management process of surgical pathology samples.
