ABSTRACT
Selection of the best “value” creating interventions with the existing resources has become one of the most widely adapted approaches of health management. While the concept of “value”, which can be mathematically formulated by proportioning the outcomes to the costs, and is harder to accomplish in the health sector is being discussed, another argument is ongoing on the concept of “efficiency” which is formulated by proportioning the inputs to the outputs. With a value based management approach, we are not only talking about a single model, but an ecosystem which could generate different models. Focusing on outputs and value actually triggers innovation opportunities in the system. Thus, “difference creating”, not doing what everybody else is doing, interventions can be realized. The system; through incentive packages supported by financing policies can even award the preventive measures and lifestyle changes inflicted by the patient, during the reimbursement phase. A very different approach will be dominant with the dissemination of value based management concept in health management, and new approaches which will radically change the roles and responsibilities of all stakeholders will emerge.
